Islands of Adventure is drawing crowds at 25 minutes average, but one East Coast park is running so light that families could walk onto nearly everything. The real split this week isn't between coasts or price tiers, it's between which parks have the staff and attractions open to handle crowds, and which ones don't.

Where the lines are (and aren't)

The network average sits at 11 minutes, but the spread is dramatic. Magic Kingdom holds steady at 20 minutes with 40 rides running, while Disneyland has dropped to 6 minutes across 39 open attractions. Islands of Adventure is the week's busiest major park at 25 minutes, but that's still moderate for a summer window. The real outliers are the parks running skeleton crews or mid-season maintenance: Six Flags Great Adventure, Cedar Point, and Hersheypark are all averaging near zero because most of their rosters are down for the week. If you have a child who gets anxious in long lines or you want to maximize ride count, Six Flags Great Adventure in particular offers the rare gift of a major park running completely open with virtually no wait. That window won't last.

SeaWorld Orlando and Dollywood are both running warmer than average at 22 and 18 minutes respectively, so if you're in Florida or Tennessee this week, plan your major rides for park open or rope-drop strategy rather than walk-up.

When to shift your trip

The parks running above average right now are Magic Kingdom, Islands of Adventure, SeaWorld Orlando, and Dollywood. All four see their steepest crowds during summer holidays and major event weeks, so moving your visit to a Tuesday or Wednesday in late September, mid-January, or early May will cut your waits roughly in half. If you're flexible this week and want to reverse that math, Disneyland, Hersheypark, Busch Gardens Tampa, and Cedar Point are all running noticeably light, book now if you can get out the door in the next few days.

Closures and what's actually open

Large parts of the network are down this week for maintenance or seasonal transition. Cedar Point has 83 rides closed, Six Flags Magic Mountain 38, and Universal Studios Hollywood isn't reporting open attractions at all, confirm the park is operating before you drive. On the flip side, Disneyland and Magic Kingdom are running 39 and 40 rides respectively, so if a park shows "no rides reporting," check the official park calendar rather than assuming it's fully staffed.

Disneyland has the longest current closure list with 17 attractions down, but still has enough open (Peter Pan's Flight tops out at 40 minutes) to make the trip worthwhile given how quiet the park is this week overall.

New merchandise and seasonal events

Disney is pushing Halloween and holiday merchandise across both coasts, with new Mickey Family Halloween collections in stock now and Disney Cruise Line's holiday sailings booking for winter. Six Flags Magic Mountain and regional parks are running summer and holiday-themed special events, and SeaWorld and Busch Gardens Tampa both have active summer sales running through the week.
