Disneyland is running with exactly one open attraction right now, which means the park is effectively empty and walk-ons are a guarantee. Meanwhile, Islands of Adventure has drawn crowds to 13 minutes average across its open rides, making it the network's busiest spot this week.

The split tells you something useful: if your schedule is rigid, Islands of Adventure will challenge your patience. If you can shift to same-week, Disneyland, and three other parks running light, offer the opposite problem.

What's opening and closing this week

Neil Patrick Harris kicks off a new opening number for Horizons: A Carousel of Progress at both Magic Kingdom and Disneyland, anchoring a broader World Princess Week tie-in product drop across both coasts. Cedar Point and Knott's Berry Farm have announced Camp Timber Trail for 2027, a new kids' area coming next season.

On the closure side, the picture is grim: Cedar Point has 59 rides down, Hersheypark has 48, and Disneyland has 55. These are late-summer refurbs, meaning many parks are in heavy maintenance rotation. Magic Kingdom has seven down, Islands of Adventure has seven, and Universal Studios Hollywood has 15. Check live status before you book to confirm what's actually available the day you visit.

Where to go if your week is flexible

Five parks are running so light this week that lines are under 2 minutes average. Disneyland leads at 0 minutes across its single open ride. Busch Gardens Tampa, SeaWorld Orlando, and Dollywood are all at 1 minute. If you can pivot to same-week, any of these four will hand you short lines and minimal wait for headliners, a rarity in summer. The trade-off is reduced ride count due to refurbs, but for families with young kids or those chasing a low-stress day, that's a fair bargain.

Magic Kingdom and Cedar Point are both running 12 minutes average, 5 minutes above the network norm. Islands of Adventure sits at 13 minutes, the week's busiest park. If you're locked into one of those three, stick to arrival-at-open strategy and hit your must-do rides in the first 90 minutes before crowds settle in.

Hersheypark and Universal Studios Hollywood are both at 5 minutes, right at or slightly below the 7-minute network average. Standard family tactics apply: arrive early, stack your headliners first, take a midday break.

Six Flags Magic Mountain, Six Flags Great Adventure, and Knott's Berry Farm show no open rides in this snapshot, likely meaning they're closed for the day or season. Verify hours before planning around them.

Special events and sales running this week

Six Flags Magic Mountain is running Holiday in the Park, while Busch Gardens Tampa and SeaWorld Orlando are both pushing end-of-summer sales. If you're in either of those markets and considering a late-summer visit, check their limited-time offers before purchasing full-price admission.
