Magic Kingdom runs its Independence Day fireworks on both the 3rd and the 4th, and the 3rd is the one we plan around. The crowd that thinks the show is only on the 4th stays home a day early, so the park breathes a little on the 3rd while the fireworks are the same.
What we'd consider this Disney's 4th of July Fireworks
Go on the 3rd, not the 4th
Same show, smaller crowd. Most out-of-town visitors assume the fireworks are the 4th only and pack the park that night. The 3rd gives you the show with shorter lines all day leading up to it.
Claim a hub spot about an hour out
The view from the central hub in front of the castle fills up roughly an hour before the show. Get the kids fed and parked on a curb there, then take turns walking to a nearby restroom so nobody loses the spot.
What we'd avoid
Leaving the second the finale ends
Everyone walks out at once and the exit, the monorail, and the parking trams all bottleneck for the better part of an hour. We let the kids sit on a bench with a snack for twenty minutes and walk out into a half-empty park instead.
Practical
Pack a real snack
The hour of holding your spot is the hour everyone gets hungry and cranky. A packed snack you brought through the gate buys you the wait without a $7 detour to a cart.
Check the showtime that morning
Holiday showtimes shift year to year and sometimes get a second showing added. Confirm the time in the park app the morning of so you're not guessing.

Independence Day
Happy Fourth of July. The night the sky lights up and the parks change shape. Best seats for the show aren't always where the locals point you — three formats we keep returning to, and the one we tried once and never again.
Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party — opening night
The cookie route alone justifies the ticket. The two stations we sprint to first, the one parade slot we now refuse to skip, and what we wear when the temperature drops after sundown.
EPCOT Food & Wine Festival — opening week
A festival built for adults that we keep bringing the kids to anyway. The booths that earn the walk, the two we now skip on principle, and how we pace the loop without a stroller mutiny.
Back to Hogwarts Day
September 1st. Where we go when the kids ask if they can ride a certain train, the small ritual that has survived every trip since, and the one snack we now always pack for the ride.
Halloween Horror Nights — opening night
Opening night has a specific energy that the rest of the run doesn't repeat. What we now book first, what we now skip, and the one house we drag our older kids through every single year.
Labor Day
The week the crowds thin and the rates drop. What we book on Monday for Tuesday, and the one mistake we still make every year.
