Thanksgiving

November 26, 2026

The week the parks change shape. Where the crowds actually go, where we now go instead, and one local-favorite restaurant we now book a year in advance.

Thanksgiving week is one of the busiest stretches of the year at the major parks, and the crowd pattern is predictable enough to plan around. The days right before the holiday are the worst; Thanksgiving Day itself and the days after settle down.

What we'd consider this Thanksgiving

  1. Go Thanksgiving Day morning

The parks are noticeably calmer on Thanksgiving morning while families are home cooking. Get a few hours in early, then head out for a holiday meal while everyone else is just arriving.

  2. A national or state park instead

The week off school doesn't have to mean a theme park. The outdoor parks are quiet over Thanksgiving and the cool late-fall weather is the best hiking of the year in much of the country.

What we'd avoid

  1. The Saturday and Sunday after

The back half of the long weekend is peak crowd as the out-of-town families do their park day before driving home. If you're going, go early in the week and leave that weekend to everyone else.

Practical

  1. Book the holiday meal early

The sit-down restaurants near the parks book their Thanksgiving seatings months out. If a holiday meal is part of the plan, reserve it as far ahead as the system allows, not the week of.

  2. Expect modified hours

Park and restaurant hours shift on the holiday itself. Confirm opening times and any closures in the app a few days out so the morning plan holds.

Discounted Disneyland Resort single-park-per-day (base) tickets via Undercover Tourist. The right recommendation for a budget-tight first-time Disneyland visit when Park Hopper isn't worth the upgrade.
