Knott's Berry Farm is posting zero-minute average waits across 32 open rides this week, while Magic Kingdom, Disneyland, and Islands of Adventure all sit at 13-14 minutes. What explains the split, and who should move fast to take advantage of it.

When to visit each park this week

The network is splitting hard right now. Disney and Universal flagships are running 40 to 55 percent above the network average of 9 minutes, which means anyone with flexibility should either visit mid-week at those parks or pivot to the empty ones running this week.

Knott's Berry Farm is the standout play: zero-minute average waits mean you'll spend the day riding, not waiting in line. Busch Gardens Tampa and Dollywood are also running light at 4-minute averages. If you can travel now, either of these three delivers real trip value. Magic Kingdom and Disneyland, by contrast, warrant a shift to a Tuesday or Wednesday in the next shoulder window, typically late September, mid-January, or early May.

Universal Studios Hollywood is tracking just 1 minute above the network average, making it the most forgiving of the three Universal/Disney flagships for same-week visits. Arrive at park open, target Mario Kart and other headliners in the first 90 minutes, and take a midday break to beat the afternoon crush.

Several regional parks are closed in this snapshot: Six Flags Magic Mountain, Six Flags Great Adventure, Cedar Point, and Hersheypark all show no rides reporting. Check each park's official seasonal calendar before booking. The first full week back from off-season typically delivers the lightest crowds of the reopening period.

SeaWorld Orlando is running at 25-minute averages, driven by the new Expedition Odyssey Fire & Ice ride. Unless you're specifically targeting that attraction, consider shifting to a quieter week.

Current ride closures and maintenance windows

Most parks have standard seasonal maintenance underway, but the closure counts vary sharply by location. Dollywood leads the group with just one ride down (Big Bear Mountain), keeping 36 rides open. Magic Kingdom and Disneyland are managing 38 and 46 open rides respectively despite six and nine closures each, a sign of normal mid-September turnover.

The regional parks are in heavier maintenance mode. Cedar Point and Hersheypark both have 69 and 56 rides closed respectively, and Six Flags Great Adventure shows 47 closed. These numbers reflect seasonal deep-maintenance windows rather than unexpected downtime; check live status for each park before your visit to confirm which attractions matter to your family are running.

What's new and what's opening soon

Disney Parks are rolling out Halloween and logo-mania merchandise collections across Magic Kingdom and Disneyland this month. If your family has the energy for souvenir shopping, hit the gift shops early in your visit when crowds are lightest.

Looking ahead to 2027, EPCOT's International Flower and Garden Festival returns with new dates. Early bookings for spring travel typically lock in better rates, so if your family enjoys festival events, watch for official Disney pricing and reserve early.

Six Flags Magic Mountain is running Holiday in the Park into the season. Check the official event calendar for opening dates and ticketing.
