Halloween

October 31, 2026

Halloween at the parks is its own season — strolling lanterns, themed treats, and the year's most photogenic queues. One small stop we still detour for, and the night-of trick that buys us thirty minutes.

Theme parks turn Halloween into a weeks-long season, and for younger kids the daytime and early-evening decorations are the whole point. You don't need the separate-ticket scare events to get the lanterns, the themed treats, and the best photos of the year.

What we'd consider this Halloween

  1. Do the daytime Halloween overlay

The parks dress up the regular daytime hours with decorations, seasonal snacks, and photo spots that don't cost a separate ticket. For little kids this is the sweet spot: all the atmosphere, none of the scares.

  2. Chase the seasonal treats

The limited-run Halloween snacks are half the fun and they sell out by late afternoon. Hit the one your kids circled on the menu early, then let the hunt for the others pull you through the park.

What we'd avoid

  1. The week of October 31 itself

The final days before Halloween are the most crowded of the whole season. The first couple weeks of October have the same decorations with room to move. Go early in the month and skip the finale crush.

Practical

  1. The costume rules change with age

Most parks let young kids wear costumes on regular days but restrict masks and adult costumes. Check the park's costume policy before you pack one so nobody's turned around at the gate.

  2. Beat the line at opening

The photogenic decoration spots are empty at rope drop and mobbed by noon. The thirty minutes right after opening is when you get the lantern-lit shot without forty strangers in the frame.
